Saakashvili calls on his supporters to take action

The opposition should seek to overthrow the ruling power and early parliamentary elections, Mikhail Saakashvili, a former Georgian President, has stated. His advocate fears that Saakashvili, who is on a hunger strike for 32 days already, may be kidnapped if transferred to a hospital in Gori.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on the eve of the voting in the second round of local elections, Saakashvili refused to contact doctors and take medications. The former president has the right to commit suicide, Irakli Garibashvili, the Prime Minister, has stated.

Mikheil (Mikhail) Saakashvili returned to Georgia on October 1 and was arrested, as he had been sentenced in absentia in Georgia under several criminal cases. Immediately after his arrest, he went on a hunger strike.

If necessary, the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) plans to transfer Saakashvili not to a prison hospital, as announced earlier, but to a hospital in the city of Gori located in the Shida Kartli Region, his advocate, Nika Gvaramiya, said on air of the "Mtavari Arkhi" TV Company, adding that there are fears that Saakashvili might be kidnapped from the hospital.

The advocate has read out Saakashvili's appeal to the people, in which he called on his supporters to protest against the election outcomes. According to his version, the opposition has won in all large cities.

The NGO "Empathy Centre for Psychological Rehabilitation of Torture Victims" has demanded information about Saakashvili's health condition from the prison administration.

The "Lelo" Party has demanded from Georgian authorities to transfer Saakashvili to a civilian clinic, as "his health condition worsens day by day and can lead to his death," the "Formulanews" reports. If authorities fail to do this, their actions will be treated as a death sentence, the opposition has stated.
