Advocates argue with penitentiary service about Saakashvili’s health state

The results of the recent medical tests which Mikhail Saakashvili underwent refute the assertions of the penitentiary service which claims the stable health state of the hunger-strike, and the vital signs of the former Georgian president have reached a critical level, his advocate report.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that starting from October 1, Mikhail Saakashvili has been on a hunger strike in a prison in Rustavi. The former president of Georgia demands to release him. On the 33rd day of the politician’s hunger strike, doctor Nikoloz Kipshidze diagnosed failure of the patient’s kidneys.

Supporters of Mikhail Saakashvili regularly hold rallies in support of him. On November 3, Elene Khoshtariya, the leader of the opposition “Droa” Party, went on a hunger strike. The politician demands to transfer Mikhail Saakashvili to a civilian hospital.

According to advocate Giorgi Gelkhauri, the former president of Georgia urgently needs to be transferred to a civilian clinic, and he can receive full-fledged medical care only there.

President Salome Zurabishvili has announced that she harshly opposes the pardon. “The former president does not meet the criteria of either a political prisoner or an innocent victim,” said Salome Zurabishvili as quoted by the “InterPressNews”.

Meanwhile, the president of Georgia has emphasized the special attitude towards Mikhail Saakashvili, “proceeding from the high public and political interest.”
