Rally in Zugdidi demands Saakashvili's release

Mikheil (Mikhail) Saakashvili should be the last political prisoner in Georgia, supporters of the "United National Movement" (UNM) Party have stated at their rally held in the city of Zugdidi.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Mikheil (Mikhail) Saakashvili is kept in Rustavi Prison, where he has been on a hunger strike since October 1 demanding his release. On October 26, 14 Georgian NGOs called on the authorities to resolve the issue of hospitalization of Mikhail Saakashvili, who categorically refused to be transferred to a prison hospital in Gldani.

A crowded rally of UNM supporters was held in the evening on October 27 in Zugdidi, the "Georgia News" has reported. The rally demanded to release Saakashvili.

Saakashvili should become the last political prisoner in Georgia, Gigi Ugulava, the candidate for the Mayor of Poti from the united opposition, has stated, noting that the opposition has no aim of changing one ruling party for another – the "Georgian Dream" Party for the UNM; instead, the opposition suggests a coalition ruling.

The participants of the rally held in the central Zugdidi square were holding Georgian flags, posters with the names of their districts reading "Freedom to Misha!", the "Sputnik Georgia" has reported.
