MMA fighter from Chechnya arrested in drug case
A Moscow court ruled to detain Salman Zhamaldaev, a former winner of the World Fighting Championship Akhmat, until January 6. The athlete faces 10 years of imprisonment under the article on drug trafficking.
Salman Zhamaldaev, arrested in Moscow, is a native of Chechnya, world champion in shoeboxing, champion of Russia in pankration, and champion of Southern Russia in grappling. Moreover, Salman Zhamaldaev is a former winner of the World Fighting Championship Akhmat and a winner of the Absolute Championship Berkut in featherweight category. Salman Zhamaldaev is a master of sports in freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling. The athlete took part in 22 fights, and he won 20 of them, the TASS reports today.
The court pronounced a decision on arrest on November 8. According to the electronic file on the website of Moscow courts of general jurisdiction, the case is instituted under the article on drug trafficking, under which Salman Zhamaldaev faces up to 10 years of imprisonment.
Earlier, the “Caucasian Knot” has reported that in June, MMA fighter Islam Vagabov was arrested in Makhachkala. He was wanted in a case on beating of Mukhu Aliev, a nephew of the former president of Dagestan.
