CTO legal regime cancelled in Karachay-Cherkessia

The restrictions imposed in Karachay-Cherkessia for the duration of the counterterrorist operation (CTO) have been lifted. Firearms and an explosive device were found at the place of a shootout.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that today, the CTO legal regime was introduced in Karachay-Cherkessia in connection with the search for two suspected militants in the Karachay District. Law enforcers killed two armed militants in the CTO area in the Karachay District. According to the FSB, the suspects were planning a terror act. The counterterrorist operation in Karachay-Cherkessia became the first since 2015.

The CTO legal regime has been cancelled in Karachay-Cherkessia, the FSB Department for the republic reports.

There are no casualties among law enforcers and victims among the local population. At the place of the armed clash, the dead suspects were found to have automatic firearms, ammunition, and an improvised explosive device (IED). Law enforcers also discovered a hiding containing camouflage clothing and masks with eye holes. Searches are being carried out at the places of residence and temporary stay of the killed suspects, the report says.
