A case on terror act in Chechen village submitted to court

A case against three residents of Chechnya has been sent to court. They are accused in a case on the terror act in the village of Znamenskoye, as a result of which 15 people were killed in July 2005.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on July 19, 2005, 15 people, including a woman and two boys, were killed when a car with explosives was blown up in the village of Znamenskoye in the Nadterechny District of Chechnya. Other 24 local residents were injured. Ali Agamerzoev and Aslambek Vitrigov, natives of the Vedeno District, were detained on suspicion of involvement in the incident. 29-year-old Ayub Tuntaev was accused of organizing the terror act.

According to Ayub Tuntaev’s testimony, the terror act was ordered by Shamil Basaev, who promised to pay the perpetrators 1000 US dollars.

According to the investigators’ version, in July 2005, the defendants parked a car filled with an improvised explosive device (IED) near residential buildings in the village of Znamenskoye. A dead body of a man dressed in military uniform was placed into the car.

Then, in order to attract the attention of local residents and law enforcers, one of the defendants fired several shots at the car. When the police approached the car, one of the defendants activated the explosive device.
