MCC confirms Mirzalizade's ban to enter Russia
The Moscow City Court (MCC) has rejected the motion of the defence of Idrak Mirzalizade, which had challenged the ban on his entry to Russia.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 30, 2021, the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) banned Idrak Mirzalizade, an ethnic Talysh and a citizen of Belarus, who had served his administrative arrest for a joke about xenophobia, from entering Russia for life. In September, Mirzalizade appealed against the ban. In October, the Zamoskvoretsky District Court partially satisfied the Mirzalizade's lawsuit and ordered the MIA to set a reasonable ban period for the comedian to enter the Russian Federation, not the lifelong ban. However, the defence was not satisfied with this decision and submitted an appeal.
The administrative prosecution and then the ban on staying in Russia were provoked by the Idrak Mirzalizade’s joke about the problems with renting housing in Moscow. The comic was also attacked after his joke about xenophobes. The attackers demanded from him to apologize, but Idrak Mirzalizade refused. According to the comic, three weeks before the attack, he received several thousand threats.
On December 9, the MCC considered the appeal lodged by the Mirzalizade's defence against the decision of the Zamoskvoretsky District Court, says the Telegram channel of the Moscow General Jurisdiction Courts. The decision of the above District Court was left unchanged, the appeal complaint was denied, says the message posted in the Telegram channel.
