Law enforcers interfere with inauguration ceremony of Mayor in Vardenis

The police did not allow opposition-elected Mayor of Vardenis to enter the Mayoralty and explained that the ruling party had challenged his election in court. Agaron Khachatryan had to take the oath in the street.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on December 5, 2021, in Armenia, people voted at local elections in communities, and in 12 out of 38 communities, the largest number of votes was gained by the opposition.

Today, Mayor of Vardenis Aharon Khachatryan has taken the oath in the street in front of the city administration building, as the police blocked the entrance to the building. The policemen explained their actions by the fact that a lawsuit was filed to the Administrative Court. The police announced that the entrance to the building would be closed until a decision of the Administrative Court. Therefore, the opposition decided to hold the inauguration of the elected mayor in the open air, the “Lragir.am” reports today.

“Artificial obstacles were created during the elections of the Mayor of Vardenis and during the inauguration, but as you can see, our team is doing everything to overcome them,” the “Lragir.am” quoted Agaron Khachatryan as saying while addressing the audience and residents of the city.

Significant police forces have been accumulated in Vardenis since the morning, the agency “Armenia today” reports.
