Polad Aslanov complains about lack of medical care after his hunger strike

The health state of Azerbaijani journalist Polad Aslanov has deteriorated after his 20-day hunger strike, but he is not receiving medical assistance, his spouse states.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on January 6, Polad Aslanov went on a hunger strike with the demand to reconsider his case. The journalist complained about the physical and psychological pressure in the penal colony. Polad Aslanov’s health state deteriorated sharply on the 18th day of his hunger strike. On January 25, the journalist stopped his protest action due to the strict recommendation of doctors.

Polad Aslanov suffers from serious health problems after his hunger strike, his wife Gyulmira Aslanova says.

“Polad asked for a meeting with the chief of the medical institution, but in vain. After the long hunger strike, the man needs special care and assistance, but they even refuse to subject Polad to medical examination,” Gyulmira Aslanova stated.

The spouse of the journalist believes that her husband is being prosecuted on the trumped-up charge due to his posts with materials about extortion by law enforcers.
