Abduction attempt of Dagestani native in Moscow angered Instagram users

In the public of the human rights project "Marem", Instagram users have expressed their indignation at the attempted abduction of a native of Dagestan in Moscow by her relatives. The commentators have suggested that the girl would not be left alone, while the Russian legislation provides almost no protection to victims of domestic violence.

Relatives from Dagestan tried to abduct the girl who had run away from domestic violence, but passers-by called the police, the crisis centre "Krepost" (Fortress) has reported. Volunteers, together with an advocate, managed to release the fugitive, and doctors fixed a concussion and bruises in her.

Now, the girl "requires long-term treatment – not only the drug therapy and doctor's examinations, but also a long work with a psychologist," the "Marem" project says on the Instagram; the project helps women from Northern Caucasus who fell victim to domestic violence.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported about other cases when relatives tried to return home the women who had run away from domestic violence. Thus, on October 18, 2021, two girls who had run away from relatives in Dagestan were taken by law enforcers from the crisis centre in Kazan entitled "Mother's House". Later, they got in touch, assuring that everything was fine with them, and urged not to look for them. The girls made these statements under pressure, Svetlana Anokhina, a human rights defender, believes.
