Azerbaijan’s MoD reports about a shelling attack on its positions on border with Armenia
On April 3, units of the Azerbaijani army in the Tovuz District were shelled from the territory of Armenia, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) of Azerbaijan reported. The Ministry of Defence of Armenia objected that the Armenian side did not open fire.
The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that Baku and Yerevan regularly exchange accusations of shelling attacks. In late March, the situation on the line of contact in Karabakh escalated. On March 27, the Russian Ministry of Defence reported that after negotiations, Azerbaijan withdrew its armed forces from the territory near the Karabakh village of Furukh (the Azerbaijani name of the village is Farrukh, and the Armenian name is Parukh, – note of the “Caucasian Knot”), but Azerbaijan refuted the information. OSCE Chair Zbigniew Rau announced that Armenia and Azerbaijan should hold talks.
On April 3, the Armenian armed forces fired at the positions of the Azerbaijani army in the village of Mushurkend in the Tovuzgala District (the Tavush Region of Armenia, – note of the “Caucasian Knot”), the MoD of Azerbaijan reported.
In response, the Ministry of Defence of Armenia announced that the Baku’s statement about the Armenian armed forces shelling Azerbaijani positions on April 3 did not correspond to reality.
“The situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border is relatively stable and is under the full control of the Armenian armed forces,” the Ministry of Defence of Armenia reports on its official website.
