Defence treats Shamil Nurmagomedov's transfer to prison as unjustified

The court judgement to transfer Shamil Nurmagomedov, a resident of Dagestan, convicted of financing terrorism, from a colony in the Smolensk Region to prison will be appealed against, since lately he had no serious violations, his advocate has stated. Shamil's father has linked the toughening of his son's custody regime with the latter's participation in protests held in the colony in 2021.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 28, 2021, Shamil Nurmagomedov's custody regime in colony was toughened. The reason was his making public the information about the protest hunger strike held by convicts, Shamil's father has stated.

On April 26, the Safonovo District Court of the Smolensk Region considered a petition lodged by the administration of the colony, where Nurmagomedov is serving his term, asking to toughen his regime, his advocate, Evgeny Gorbachov, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

"We disagree with the court judgement; as soon as we receive the full text thereof, we'll draft a complaint," said the advocate.

According to Gorbachov, his client had only one minor violation of the regime in the past nine months.

According to Kazim Nurmagomedov, Shamil's father, the toughening of his son's custody regime has to do with the fact that last year, Shamil went on a hunger strike and "the colony became famous throughout the country for the fact that inmates had sewn up their mouths."
