Organizers of "LGBT Week" abandon the idea of gay parade in Tbilisi

The holding a "Dignity March" in Tbilisi may be unsafe for its participants, the "Tbilisi Pride" has explained and refused to hold the march this year.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on July 1-5, 2021, the "LGBT Week" was held in Tbilisi; and it was planned to end it with the "Dignity March". On July 5, an action organized by LGBT opponents turned into an attack on journalists, in which 53 media professionals suffered.

In January 2022, the PACE (Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe) MPs expressed their concern about the violation of LGBT people' freedom of expression in Georgia, which was often accompanied by hatred and violence.

"LGBTQ+ is the only group actually deprived of the right to gather and hold marches in our country," the "Tbilisi Pride" has stated as quoted by the "News-Georgia".

In Georgia, people of non-traditional sexual orientation face problems in education, employment and health care, the "Tbilisi Pride" has noted. The legal non-recognition of gender is also "one of the problems."

The state still has failed to guarantee safety to LGBT people; and many residents of Georgia are opposed to those who are not like everyone else, the "Tbilisi Pride" has added.

Let us remind you that on May 29, transgender people were again attacked in Georgia. Several dozen males beat up and threw stones at five transgender women in Tbilisi.
