Georgia would not deport suspects of murdering journalist Elmar Guseinov

The official Tbilisi has refused to extradite to Azerbaijan two Azerbaijanis, citizens of Georgia, suspected of murdering journalist Elmar Guseinov. The refusal was motivated by the absence of new facts and evidences of the charge. The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent has learnt about it from the sources in law enforcement bodies.

In its turn, the Ministry of National Security (MNS) of Azerbaijan has refused to make any comments on this fact.

"Apparently, we see here a fact of a certain arrangement between the authorities of Azerbaijan and Georgia. Otherwise, the authorities of Azerbaijan would have long ago achieved the arrest and deportation of potential murderers of E. Guseinov," Emmin Guseinov, head of the Institute of Free Press, said.

In his opinion, the authorities of Azerbaijan are just not interested in disclosure of this crime.

"After E. Guseinov's tragic death, the authorities at their highest level promised to clear this crime and punish the murderers with all severity. However, over two years have passed, and nothing has been done. At times, they even hampered clearing the truth - for example, when they tried to 'hang up' this murder on ex-Minister of Economic Development Farkhad Aliev. Even before that, the authorities announced the names of two potential murderers - Teimuraz Aliev and Tair Khubanov, citizens of Georgia, who by then had enough time to easily return to the neighbouring country. And now it has become clear that they do not have even evidences against these persons," E. Guseinov has noted.
