Human rights defenders alarmed by lack of information about fate of Arsamikov taken to Chechnya
There has been no reliable information for a long time about the fate of Idris Arsamikov, who was taken away by law enforcers from Moscow to Chechnya, the “SK SOS Crisis Group”* reports. This fact gives reason to worry about his life, human rights defenders point out.
The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that Idris Arsamikov is being kept in the Chechen village of Starogladovskaya. Advocates wanted to visit him, but his fellow villagers did not allow them to do that.
On February 16, the “SK SOS Crisis Group”* reported that 28-year-old Idris Arsamikov, who returned from the Netherlands to Russia to attend the funeral of his father, was detained at Domodedovo Airport and handed over to Chechen law enforcers. Chat messages posted on behalf of Idris Arsamikov do not give grounds to claim that he is alive, human rights defender point out. According to them, there is a possibility that Idris Arsamikov was isolated and chat messages were posted on his behalf.
There is no confirmed new information about the fate of Idris Arsamikov, reports Alexandra Miroshnikova, the spokesperson for the “SK SOS Crisis Group”*. The human rights defender believes that the Idris Arsamikov’s accounts in the social media are controlled by the law enforcement bodies.
Since there has been no information about Idris Arsamikov for a long time, human rights defenders may seriously fear for his life, believes Svetlana Gannushkina*, the chair of the “Civic Assistance Committee”*. According to her, relatives may be able to forcibly marry him in order to “change” his life. “It happens that a guy is lucky and his wife accepts understandingly his orientation. They can even have children. But all that does not affect orientation,” Svetlana Gannushkina* said.
The human rights defender believes that Idris Arsamikov will not be able to live a normal life in Chechnya.
Human rights defender Oyub Titiev agrees with the above. He also admits that the relatives of Idris Arsamikov may be able to commit an “honour killing”.
