Human rights activist from Chechnya goes on hunger strike in Strasbourg
From September 1 in Strasbourg, Said-Emin Ibragimov, a refugee from Chechnya and President of the International Association "World and Human Rights" is holding a hunger strike. He demands from the United Nations, the Council of Europe (СЕ) and the European Union (EU) "to consider from the legal point of view" rough violations by Russia of human rights in Chechnya. Mr Ibragimov himself told about it to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
According to Said-Emin Ibragimov, his hunger strike has a precautionary character and will last till September 6. It is dated to the scheduled on September regular session of the UN Council on Human Rights and a session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), which will take place in Strasbourg from October 1 to October 5.
"Should my request be ignored, from September 6 - the Independence Day of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria - I'll continue my hunger strike. Then, it'll be termless," the ex-Minister of Communications of Chechnya in the Government of General Dudaev has stated.
The present hunger strike of Said-Emin is the seventh one after 1995. In total, he was on hunger strike for 187 days.
