Court refuses to toughen Makhachkala citizen's sentence in extremism case
The appellate instance has refused to satisfy the prosecutor's request to toughen the punishment for Abdulmumin Abdulmuminov, a resident of Makhachkala, convicted of creating a cell of the banned extremist organization "At-Takfir wal-Hijra".
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on May 5, the Leninsky District Court of Makhachkala found Abdulmumin Abdulmuminov guilty of organizing a cell of the religious association "At-Takfir wal-Hijra"* and sentenced him to a year and eight months in colony.
The Supreme Court (SC) of Dagestan has upheld the verdict, the "Kavkaz.Realii"** project has reported.
The prosecutor's office had protested the verdict, finding it too lenient, the project reports.
The first-instance court counted each day Abdulmuminov spent at the SIZO (pre-trial prison) as 1.5 days in colony and released him from custody under recognizance not to leave the place in connection with his actual serving of the term, the human rights project "OVD-Info"** has explained.
