Advocate Nemov and journalist Milashina receive serious traumas in attack

Unidentified armed men have kicked Alexander Nemov, a lawyer, and Elena Milashina, a journalist of the "Novaya Gazeta", who had arrived in Chechnya to cover the trial of Zarema Musaeva.

Elena Milashina lost consciousness several times at hospital, said the head of the checkpoint, said Sergey Babinets, the head of the "Team against Torture" (TaT).

According to Alexander Nemov, on their way from the Grozny Airport, the car, in which he and Milashina were travelling, was blocked by three cars. Armed men jumped out of the cars and severely beat up the lawyer and the journalist with their feet, including in the face, the TaT has reported in its Telegram channel.

The attackers threatened to shoot them; they put a pistol to their heads, Mr Nemov has added. Now, he and Milashina are in a hospital in Grozny. Both have multiple bruises, and Elena Milashina has several broken fingers.
