The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Tatiana Moskalkova, the Russian Ombudsperson had informed that Nikita Zhuravel, who was arrested within the case of burning down the Koran, had informed that at the Grozny SIZO (pre-trial prison), Nikita was beaten up by a son of the Chechen leader; Ms Moskalkova asked her Chechen colleague to conduct a check.

On May 20, 2023, Nikita Zhuravel, a local resident was detained in Volgograd after he recorded a video with the burning down of the Koran. During the interrogation, he stated that he had done it at the direction of Ukrainian special services. The head of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) ordered that Zhuravel's case be transferred to Chechnya, explaining this by the appeals he received from residents of Chechnya, who asked to be recognized them as the injured party.

According to Soltaev, the Chechen Ombudsperson, during Zhuravel's meeting with Kadyrov, "he apologised for having committed a crime against Muslims" and "sincerely repented."
