Roman Taganov, an activist from Maykop (Adygea), was denied initiating a criminal case after the attack on him. According to his story, the police have ignored his arguments. The denial will be appealed against, Felix Vertegel, an advocate for Taganov, has promised.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 6, doctors diagnosed traumas on Roman Taganov, who was hospitalized after he was beaten up by an unknown person. The attacker demanded that Taganov stop posting in the social network.
According to Roman, the beating had affected his vestibular system. Because of this, he recently got into a traffic accident and received another brain concussion. Besides, after the attack, a group of attacker's supporters appeared in local Telegram chats, calling for Taganov to be expelled from the district as a "traitor to the homeland."
On July 29, 2022, Roman Taganov was sentenced to three years of freedom deprivation conditionally on charges of using harmless violence against law enforcers.
On October 6, 2022, the Supreme Court (SC) of Adygea upheld Taganov's sentence. He was released on October 13, 2022. In November 2022, the court overturned the decision to transfer Taganov from house arrest to the SIZO (pre-trial prison). This will allow him to claim compensation for his stay in custody. Taganov himself said that he finally had the opportunity to work and maintain his family.
