Dagestani journalists hold solo pickets in support of Gadjiev and Donogo
Magomed Magomedov and Idris Yusupov held solo pickets in Makhachkala with the demand to release convicted Abdulmumin Gadjiev and to stop the persecution of historian Khadjimurad Donogo.
The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that colleagues of Abdulmumin Gadjiev consider his criminal case to be political persecution and hold solo pickets in his support in Makhachkala every week.
Earlier, Idris Yusupov, a journalist of the “Novoye Delo” (New Clause) publication, also held solo pickets in support of Abdulmumin Gadjiev. On October 2 and 9, Idris Yusupov held solo pickets with the demand to stop the persecution of historian Khadjimurad Donogo.
Abdulmumin Gadjiev, an editor of the Dagestani weekly newspaper “Chernovik” (Rough Draft), Abubakar Rizvanov, the head of the “Ansar” charitable foundation, and Kemal Tambiev have been arrested since June 2019 on the charges of financing terrorism. On September 12, the court sentenced Abdulmumin Gadjiev to 17 years, Abubakar Rizvanov – to 18 years, and Kemal Tambiev – to 17.5 years of imprisonment.
Let us remind you that on October 2, Idris Yusupov explained that he decided to hold a solo picket in support of Khadjimurad Donogo after a lecture of the Dagestani historian, which was supposed to take place on September 30, was cancelled. Khadjimurad Donogo himself explained the ban on holding the lecture on the Mountainous Republic of the Northern Caucasus (MRNC) with the topic of the lecture or the attention of the law enforcement bodies.
