French media report new details of Mogushkov’s case after his arrest
Mokhamad Mogushkov is arrested, and he refuses to talk to investigators. His younger brother and cousin have been arrested together with him. A father of Mokhamad Mogushkov was deported from France for involvement in a case on terrorism and now lives in Georgia, the media report. Journalists noted that the Mogushkov family arrived from Ingushetia, and not from Chechnya.
The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on October 13, a teacher was killed in a school in the French city of Arras, and two other persons were seriously injured in the knife attack. The attacker was identified as Mokhamad Mogushkov, a 20-year-old native of Chechnya.
An older brother of Mokhamad Mogushkov is serving his long sentence for terrorism, and Mokhamad himself was included in the “S” list by French law enforcers for “radical Islamism.” In 2014, the authorities of France tried to deport the Mogushkov family with five children to Russia.
According to the French newspaper Le Monde, Mokhamad Mogushkov is charged with murder and attempted murder in connection with a terrorist plot. The court also arrested Mohamad’s younger brother and his 15-year-old cousin. France's anti-terror prosecutor Jean-François Ricard says the teenager knew about the attack plan but did not stop Mokhamad. The brother helped Mokhamad prepare the attack and taught him how to use knives.
An 18-year-old sister of the attacker notes that Mokhamad “became increasingly severe in his practice of Islam.”
French Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin states that investigators see an “undoubted” connection between the knife attack and the worsening of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, the French news broadcast television and radio network BFMTV reports.
French Minister of National Education and Youth Gabriel Attal emphasizes that Mokhamad Mogushkov and his brothers and sisters “have been the subject of complaints from teachers” for several years due to their radical sentiments.
Speaking about the motives of the attacker, investigators note that Mokhamad Mogushkov swore allegiance to an international terrorist grouping, declaring his “hatred for French people, democracy, and education received in France.”
The knife attack on the teacher was presumably timed to coincide with the anniversary of a similar crime: on October 16, 2020, in the suburbs of Paris, teacher Samuel Paty was beheaded, who had previously shown his students caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad from Charlie Hebdo magazine during a lesson on freedom of speech.
