Germany grants asylum to Mukhammad Abdurakhmanov
After the court ruling in the case of an attempt on his life with the knowledge of Ramzan Kadyrov, the German Ministry for Migration and Refugees has granted asylum and refugee status to Mukhammad (Mokhmad) Abdurakhmanov. He has sought this status for more than six years.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on November 5, 2018, the court of the city of Bayreuth denied Mukhammad Abdurakhmanov of asylum, assuring that he was not in danger in Chechnya. On August 26, 2019, the Supreme Administrative Court of Bavaria refused to satisfy Abdurakhmanov's request for political asylum, deciding that he could "quite safely" live in other regions of Russia. His wife and mother were also denied asylum. Then, human rights defenders noted that Mukhammad Abdurakhmanov in Germany participated in rallies of the Chechen Diaspora in support of political prisoners in Russia, against human rights violations and political repressions, and is an official representative in Germany of the "Vayfond" charitable and human rights association, whose leadership criticizes the government of Chechnya.
On March 8, 2021, Tumso Abdurakhmanov reported a failed assassination attempt on his brother Mukhammad had undertaken in Germany. A court in Munich sentenced a native of Chechnya, Valid Dadakaev, to 10 years in prison on charges of attempted murder and noted that the order to kill Mukhammad was given with Ramzan Kadyrov's knowledge.
Let us recall that Tumso Abdurakhmanov regularly criticized Ramzan Kadyrov and his entourage, and himself repeatedly became the object of criticism by Chechen authorities.
