Journalists assess Melikov’s reaction to unrest in Makhachkala
The reaction of Sergey Melikov, the leader of Dagestan, to the unrest at an airport in Makhachkala has been belated and overly emotional, journalists point out.
Earlier, Sergey Melikov has stated that the riots in Makhachkala were supported by the people opposing socio-economic transformations in Dagestan, since they deprive them of their illegal earnings, and the riots themselves were supervised from abroad, including through “pro-Ukrainian Telegram channels.” The Kremlin supported Sergey Melikov’s position.
The reaction of the Dagestani authorities to the action at the Makhachkala airport was weak and was limited to the statements voiced by the leader of Dagestan, said Magomed Magomedov, the deputy editor-in-chief of the Dagestani weekly newspaper “Chernovik” (Rough Draft).
According to the journalist, the events at the Makhachkala airport were an expression of spontaneous protest, “which was competently implemented.”
During the gathering of people at the airport, there was no reaction from the regional authorities, and the reaction of the Dagestani authorities after the events was emotional, one of the Dagestani journalists believes.
