Court cancels fine for Sochi activist Vladimir Atamanchuk

The Lazarevsky District Court of Sochi considered an appeal filed by activist Vladimir Atamanchuk against a fine for violations during election campaigning. The fine was cancelled.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on August 11, the Central District Court of Sochi granted a claim filed by Norik Simonyan, a candidate for the Sochi City Assembly, to remove from the elections Vladimir Atamanchuk, a candidate in the same district. Vladimir Atamanchuk complained that he was removed from the elections without any reason and filed an appeal against the court’s decision. On October 20, the court fined Vladimir Atamanchuk in a case on violations in the production of election campaign materials.

At trial, the activist stated that the case was falsified.

Furthermore, Vladimir Atamanchuk claimed that on December 12, a public prosecutor signed an indictment against him under the article “Defamation”. Vladimir Atamanchuk refused to admit his guilt under the above charge.

Earlier, advocate Irina Zheltukhina has stated that the criminal case on defamation raises doubts about its legality.
