Resident of Karachay-Cherkessia sentenced in case on extremism

In Karachay-Cherkessia, a court sentenced a local woman to 4.5 years of imprisonment, finding her guilty of encouraging participation in the “Union of Rus’ Slavic Forces”* organization, banned by the court, and recognized as extremist.

The “Caucasian Knot” has also reported that in April, in Karachay-Cherkessia, a local 60-year-old resident who considers herself a “citizen of the USSR” was arrested on the charge of recruitment into an extremist organization.

The defendant did not recognize the existence of the Russian Federation and its legislation. The woman carried out propaganda activities, calling on local residents to join a banned organization “in order to obstruct the activities of state bodies” in Russia.

*In 2019, the Supreme Court of the Komi Republic recognized the “Union of Rus’ Slavic Forces” (one of the group of movements that also includes “Citizens of the USSR”) as an extremist organization.
