Bagapsh: human rights activists should take care of captured Abkhazian frontier guards
President of Abkhazia has informed that negotiations on releasing Abkhazian border servicemen are conducted with Thomas Hammerberg, Commissioner for Human Rights of the Council of Europe, and with those international structures who should deal with it.
"We are doing everything to return our guys from Georgian captivity," President of Abkhazia Sergey Bagapsh has stated today at the press conference in Sukhum. According to his story, yesterday the frontier guards were still in Zugdidi (Georgian border region with Abkhazia); six of them were in custody, and one in hospital. "They were visited by representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross, who evidenced that no physical force was applied to the prisoners," the President has said.
Mr Bagapsh has emphasized that the act of terror against the Abkhazian frontier guards had been committed during their rest time after training hours, when they were cleaning their sub-machine guns.
According to Sergey Bagapsh, there were 23 frontier guards in total in the camp, and two of them - the instructors - were killed.
The Abkhazian leaders will render help to the families of the perished frontier guards; they will be awarded posthumously with top decorations. Today, the funeral service takes place in Sukhum.
