Accomplices in murder of young man near Kayakent remain witnesses in criminal case
An independent examination confirmed that more than one person participated in the murder of 19-year-old Magomed-Ali Sultanov, but two accomplices in the crime are involved in the criminal case only as witnesses. That was claimed by a lawyer representing the victims’ interests. The father of the murdered young man spoke about pressure from the law enforcement bodies, who fear new unrest in the village due to the injustice of the trial.
The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that the defence requests the court to bring to justice two more participants in the fight and to reclassify the charges to consider the crime as murder by prior conspiracy.
According to the investigators’ version, on November 10, 2022, in the village of Usemikent near Kayakent, the accused stabbed Magomed-Ali Sultanov multiple times. According to the version announced by the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF), there was only one attacker, but from the video released by the police it follows that four people took part in the fight. On November 24, 2022, relatives of the murdered young man held a gathering, saying that the participants in the attack were trying to avoid punishment.
Advocate Ilyas Saidov believes that investigators refuse to admit their mistake for fear of punishment, and the court is on the side of the investigators.
The advocate has noted that in case if accomplices in the crime succeed in escaping the punishment under the law, new bloodshed should be expected. “Given the specifics of our region, a blood feud may well break out,” the advocate emphasized.
Ilyamin Sultanov, the father of the murdered young man, said that relatives of his son’s killers did not try to reconcile with him.
Earlier, one of the residents of Kayakent said that the relatives of the attackers tried to bribe parents of a deceased man’s friend so that he would not identify anyone of the attackers in court.
