People in Chechnya are dissatisfied with the cancel of prisoners' return

Many residents of the Republic are dissatisfied with the decision of the Federal Service of Enforcement of Penalties (FSEP) not to deliver the Chechen inmates who are serving their terms in Russian colonies to Chechnya.

The majority of citizens assert that in Russian colonies Chechen prisoners are exposed to discrimination on the basis of their nationality.

The information about oppressions against Chechens in Russian colonies is also confirmed by representatives of local NGOs. Thus, according to the Information Centre of the Board of Chechen NGOs, last week three Chechens were severely beaten in the transit prison of Chelyabinsk.

According to members of local human rights organizations, most of the complaints against cruel treatment are filed by the residents of the Republic who serve their terms in the colonies located in Mordovia. Many people think that the transfer of prisoners-Chechens into the prisons located in the territory of Chechnya will allow solving the majority of today's problems.

It was reported earlier that this spring the information was disseminated that during the meeting of Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov with General Eduard Petrukhin, Deputy Head of the Russian FSEP, an agreement had been reached that the prisoners-Chechens would be transferred for serving their terms to the prisons located in the territory of the Republic.
