Court doubles compensation to Dagestani Amakhanov for being beaten by police
A court of appeal has increased the amount of compensation for grievous bodily harm to Temirkhan Amakhanov, a resident of Derbent, who was beaten by the police, from 400,000 to 800,000 roubles. The above news has been reported by the “Traumpunkt” human rights project on its Telegram channel.
The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that Temirkhan Amakhanov asked to oblige the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) to pay 5 million roubles as compensation for moral and material damage. On February 8, the city court partially granted the claim, pronouncing the compensation of 400,000 roubles. The amount would not even cover the cost of medical treatment, Temirkhan Amakhanov complained.
In April 2016, two policemen burst into Temirkhan Amakhanov’s house. Temirkhan Amakhanov said that the law enforcers attacked him, and when he began to defend himself, one of them took put his pistol and opened fire. Temirkhan Amakhanov associated the attack with the fact that he and some of his neighbours actively opposed the construction of a high-rise apartment building. A year later, law enforcers took Temirkhan Amakhanov to a police station, where they beat him so severe that Temirkhan Amakhanov had to have his spleen removed.
Let us remind you that for several years, Temirkhan Amakhanov had been trying to achieve criminal prosecution of the law enforcers who beat him. His claim was granted in 2019 after repeated complaints about the investigator’s inaction.
