Daudov's appointment as PM confirms his status in Chechnya

In Chechnya, high positions are occupied by people especially close to Ramzan Kadyrov. The appointment of Magomed Daudov as the Prime Minister (PM) has confirmed his high status; and it also indicates that in the future he may become Kadyrov's successor, analysts have noted.

Muslim Khuchiev, the previous Chechen PM, has resigned due to a transfer to another job. On May 24, Kadyrov announced that Khuchiev had been appointed assistant to the Russian PM. On May 15, it became known about the resignation of Magomed Daudov as the Parliament Speaker.

The appointment of Daudov as the PM of Chechnya is rather a formality, a source from the "Memorial" Centre for Human Rights Defence (CHRD)* has noted.

"In Chechnya, everyone except Kadyrov has no influence, regardless of the occupied post," he has stated, adding that Ramzan Kadyrov's relative will surely become the new Speaker of the Chechen Parliament.

High positions in Chechnya are given to persons most loyal to Kadyrov, Svetlana Gannushkina**, the head of the "Civic Assistance" Committee**, has noted. According to her version, Daudov's appointment as the PM has confirmed his status as one of the main candidates to succeed Kadyrov.

She has added that Daudov will have great influence in Chechnya as long as Kadyrov himself wants it and as long as Daudov's influence is beneficial to Kadyrov's family.

Ruslan Kutaev, the President of the Assembly of Caucasian Nations, believes that until recently, Daudov was not a candidate for the PM. Mr Kutaev is sure that the new Parliament Speaker will be someone from Kadyrov's inner circle.

"There are rumours that Shakhid Djamaldaev will take this post. This is a man from the times of Akhmat Kadyrov. In his time, he was the chairman of the Council of Administration Heads of all villages and districts, and was an influential politician," Ruslan Kutaev has added.

*As reported on the website of the Ministry of Justice (MoJ), the reason for including on March 1, 2024, the unregistered "Memorial" Centre for Human Rights Defence (CHRD) into the roster of foreign agents was the spread of "inaccurate information aimed at creating a negative image of the Russian Federation, as well as the Russian Armed Forces."

**Included by the Russian Ministry of Justice (MoJ) into the register of foreign agents.
