Chechen Parliament supports Daudov's appointment

Chechen parliamentarians (MPs) have unanimously supported the appointment of Magomed Daudov as chairman of the government of the republic (Premier); he himself has announced this in his Telegram channel.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Muslim Khuchiev, the previous Chechen Premier, resigned due to a transfer to another job; on May 24, Ramzan Kadyrov announced that Khuchiev had been appointed assistant to the Prime Minister of the Russian Federation. A few days before Khuchiev left his post in Chechnya; and it became known about the resignation of Magomed Daudov, the Chairman (Speaker) of the Chechen Parliament. On May 24, Kadyrov announced that Daudov had been nominated for the post of Chechen Premier.

Daudov has called the trust placed on him by Kadyrov "a great honour and responsibility" and promised to "make every effort to achieve high-quality solutions to the assigned tasks," and also stated that the main thing for him is "to be a member of Akhmat-Khadji Kadyrov's team and firmly follow the only right path indicated by him."

The resignations of Daudov and Khuchiev have shown that Chechen authorities are freer in their personnel matters than those of other Russian regions, analysts believe. Daudov's resignation did not spoil his relationship with Kadyrov, a source from the "Vayfond" Association asserts.

  • Analysts treat Chechen authorities' demands for apologies as selective

Vakhid Ilyasov's apologies for the incident on a Mariupol beach were caused by the pressure of Chechen authorities, while those from Ramzan Kadyrov's retinue rarely apologize for much more serious offences, analysts have pointed out, noting that not all incidents involving natives of Chechnya committed at resorts attract attention of republic's authorities.
