Human rights defenders outraged by investigators’ actions in relation to Aishat Magomedova, who fled from domestic violence

In Makhachkala, an investigator questioned Aishat Magomedova and recorded the signs of beatings, and then he took Aishat to her relatives in Kizilyurt, human rights defenders reported. They have expressed their indignation about the fact that Aishat Magomedova has been returned to her relatives, despite the signs of domestic violence.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation refused to accept a complaint about the kidnapping of Aishat Magomedova.

Aishat Magomedova used an investigator’s mobile phone to call her friend, as her own mobile phone was crashed by her father. “The police questioned her and recorded the signs of beatings. And then the investigator took Aishat home. Because he was afraid that the Aishat’s relatives would file a complaint against him for negligence and abduction,” the “Marem” human rights group reported.

The human rights defenders have expressed their indignation about the investigator’s actions. “We cannot understand how he could decide to take the beaten girl back to the house she left with bruises. There are doubts that the investigator is acting impartially. Especially after he found that the Aishat’ mobile phone was crashed, and her bank cards and money were taken away from her, she was intimidated and beaten,” the “Marem” human rights group noted in its Telegram channel.

After the Aishat Magomedova’s case attracted the attention of Alexander Bastrykin, the chair of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF), the father was willing to let Aishat go. “Aishat could have flown away today. Her friends were willing to buy her a ticket, but instead the police take her back to Kizilyurt to her relatives, from whom she fled because of domestic violence,” the human rights defenders noted.
