Chess player from Dagestan suspected of attempting to inflict harm upon her rival

Amina Abakarova, a chess player from Dagestan, has been suspended from tournaments of the Russian Chess Federation after she spilled mercury under the board of her rival Umayganat Osmanova.

The incident occurred during the Dagestan Chess Championship on August 2. Before the start of the chess tournament, one of the athletes checked the lists of all the participants, then went up to one of the tables, poured some liquid on it and smeared it over the table surface.

The actions of the chess tournament participant were captured on CCTV. The recordings were reviewed after the chess player who was sitting at the table in question fell ill during the tournament, the “Baza” Telegram channel reported.

The woman who smeared the toxic substance what is believed to be mercury is 40-year-old Amina Abakarova from Makhachkala. The suspect has been detained. The victim is Umayganat Osmanova from Kaspiysk. According to the field investigators’ version, Amina Abakarova wanted to take revenge on Umayganat Osmanova for some insult, which she told her colleagues about. In July, Amina Abakarova and Umayganat Osmanova met in the final of the chess tournament in Makhachkala and scored the same number of points, but taking into account additional indicators, the victory was awarded to Umayganat Osmanova.

Relatives of Umayganat Osmanova “do not intend to forgive Amina Abakarova” and want to achieve the maximum punishment for her, a source reports.
