A court in Nalchik has sentenced a contract serviceman from the city of Tyrnyauz to a year in penal colony, finding him guilty of evading his military service without permission.

The Nalchik Garrison Military Court has found Yakub Kalabekov guilty of evading his military service during mobilization, the outlet named "Gazeta Yuga" has informed.

According to the court, on April 12, 2024, Yakub voluntarily left his unit stationed in Zaporozhye and went home to Tyrnyauz "to take a break from service and spend time with his family." On May 3, he voluntarily appeared at the Military Prosecutor's Office in Nalchik.

When sentencing, the court took into account that "the defendant was raised from birth without a father, had been never brought to criminal liability; and from September 2023 to April 2024, he took an active part in the special military operation (SMO) and actively cooperated with the investigation; he has admitted his guilt and sincerely repented."
