Appeals to officials from parents of Djabrailov, who died in police department, remain unanswered

Officials from the authorities and the security agencies have not responded to appeals from parents of Akhmed Djabrailov, who died at a police department in Makhachkala after being detained.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that Ismail Djabrailov and Khadizhat Gasanova, the parents of deceased Akhmed Djabrailov, sent appeals to Vladimir Putin and the heads of the public and investigating bodies, stating that the guilty persons involved in the death of their son were trying to avoid responsibility. On August 13, Khadizhat Gasanova appealed to President Putin again.

Akhmed Djabrailov, who was detained for disturbing public order, died at the police department on July 9. Shamil Khadulaev, the head of the Public Monitoring Commission (PMC) of Dagestan, stated that law enforcers were “directly or indirectly” involved in the death of Akhmed Djabrailov.

“Nobody from the authorities has contacted us yet. They haven’t expressed their condolences, haven’t offered anything, and haven’t even apologized. We’ve filed complaints, but we haven’t received any response yet,” a sister of deceased Akhmed Djabrailov reported.

The woman has noted she and her family did everything they could to prevent the parents from seeing the video with the torture of Akhmed.

“I think they wouldn’t be able to survive that ... I myself couldn’t watch the video to the end, as I started choking in the middle, I felt sick. The tragedy has had a very strong impact on the health of the parents. They are elderly people, and it was very hard for them to survive the loss of their only son. Especially such a brutal beating resulting in his death,” the Akhmed’s sister noted.

Ismail Djabrailov and Khadizhat Gasanova said that they could not get accustomed to live with the loss of their son. “We are honoured workers of the education systems in Russia, and we have worked in schools all our lives. It is extremely hard for us to bear such injustice and outrage,” Ismail Djabrailov and Khadizhat Gasanova emphasized.

Shamil Khadulaev, the chair of the Public Monitoring Commission (PMC) of Dagestan, believes that a criminal case should be instituted against the persons involved in the death of the detainee. “A criminal case is to be instituted under the article on causing death by negligence, at the very least,” Shamil Khadulaev stated.

The chair of the Dagestani PMC believes that Akhmed Djabrailov did not pose a danger, so using a stun gun against him was unacceptable.
