Woman from Dagestan is forced to go to court to get medicines for her daughter

The court has obliged the Dagestani Ministry of Public Health (MPH) to provide the due medication to the minor daughter of a local resident, who suffers from a disease affecting organs and bones. Due to the fact that doctors refused to provide the girl with the needed medicines for almost six months, the disease began progressing, the human rights organization "Monitor of Patients and Housing and Utilities" has reported.

The daughter of the woman named Khanikalai needs 12 bottles of the drug "Vimizaim" for treating the Morquio A syndrome per week, or 567 bottles per year. Earlier, the children's clinic refused to issue a prescription due to the absence of medicine and added that they had failed to send an application to the MPH, says the Telegram channel of the above human rights organization.

The mother has repeatedly contacted the clinic, but her requests remained unanswered. Five months later, her daughter began experiencing progressive bone deformation of legs and back bone. Human rights defenders filed complaints with the Dagestani Prosecutor's Office and MPH, and then filed a lawsuit.

The "Caucasian Knot" has also reported that on June 16, 2023, patients with chronic renal failure complained that they were not receiving the necessary medications and medical care in full, and their appeals to the MPH of Dagestan were fruitless. The patients' rights were violated, human rights defenders have pointed out.
