Gathering participant in Krasnodar fined for organizing a rally

A court in Krasnodar has fined Elena Chernojvan, who was detained at a meeting of residents, by 20,000 roubles, finding her guilty of organizing a rally. According to her version, the participants of the rally tried to force authorities to react to complaints about the poor state of the road.

On October 12, residents of the dwelling settlement of Rossijsky in Krasnodar held a meeting due to the condition of the dirt road in Laperuza Street. They have recalled that for several years, they had been asking for it to be paved. Elena, a local resident, was detained at the meeting, accused of disobeying policemen and kept overnight at the police station.

Several hours before the meeting, Elena received a warning "about the inadmissibility of actions that create conditions for administrative violations." After that, residents of the settlement decided that they would not hold a meeting, but came out to discuss the problem of the road condition. Law enforcers explained that Elena was charged with disobeying the police by saying that "they offered her to get into the car and talk, but she would not agree."

Alexander Safronov, a member of the City Duma, has reported in his Telegram channel that "there was no rally, but people simply came out to talk and discuss the road problem that was troubling them."

The woman was released from liability "for insignificance," the "93.ru" outlet reports.

Elena Chernojvan has explained that residents were trying to draw officials' attention to the road problem. "Maybe we had no right to gather. But it was a cry from residents' souls. It is unbearable to live like this. They take absolutely no measures," the outlet quotes her as saying.

Residents of Laperuza Street complain about dust from passing cars and huge potholes.

According to the city Mayoralty, the road should be repaired by a construction company, but the construction deadline has been pushed forward to 2025-2026, although earlier officials promised that repairs would begin in 2024.
