Dagestani blogger apologizes to Muslims
After he burned down and trampled on the printed newspaper version while advertising a store, a Dagestani blogger has apologized to the editorial board of the "As-Salam" newspaper and all the Muslims. The editorial board has demanded that the actors of the video clip be held accountable and called on people to refrain from shopping in that store.
According to the blogger, when he came to the store to film the video, he was given the newspaper "As-Salam", but he refused to use it, since it is an Islamic newspaper. The newspaper was replaced, but it could have been accidentally taken during the filming.
In the video that became the reason for the apology, the blogger reads several phrases from the newspaper, and then burns it down on the sidewalk and tramples on it with his feet.
The editorial board of the newspaper "Dagestanskie Izvestia" demanded an inquiry into the incident and called on Dagestanis not to make purchases in the stores that were advertised in that video. "We treat this as an outrage against sacred texts and Muslims' religious feelings. And this happens in Dagestan! We categorically condemn such antics and ask law enforcement bodies to hold those responsible accountable to the fullest extent of the law," the outlet's Telegram channel says.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Khavier Yarmagomedov, a native of Dagestan who lives in Moscow, made public apologies to believers for trampling on a Christian cross during a live broadcast on the Internet. He was arrested on charges of insulting believers' feelings and distributing child pornography.
In recent years, cases under the article on insulting believers' feelings have been opened more and more often, and the maximum punishment is often imposed, lawyers have noted.
