European Parliament calls for sanctions against Georgian authorities

The European Parliament recognized Salome Zurabishvili as the President of Georgia and called on European countries to boycott the Georgian authorities. The resolution, which was supported by 400 MEPs, voiced the demand for new parliamentary elections in Georgia and sanctions against those involved in the falsifications.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that at a protest action held on February 12, its participants expressed their confidence that names of several persons, against whom the European Parliament proposed to impose sanctions, in particular, the CEO and the chair of the board of trustees of the “Georgian Public Broadcaster” TV and Radio Company, were included in the draft of the new sanctions list thanks to the daily protest actions.

The European Parliament has adopted another critical resolution calling for sanctions against the Georgian elite associated with the “Georgian Dream” Party and personally with Bidzina Ivanishvili, the “Georgian News” news agency reports.

According to the information posted on the European Parliament’s website, MEPs have called on the international community to join the boycott of the Georgian authorities.
