In Armenia, opposition wants to resume rallies

Should till June 20 the authorities go on denying the opposition's right to hold rallies, people will rally, in response to appeal of the Centre of All-National Movement, in the Freedom Square of Yerevan. This was stated by Levon Zurabyan, one of the closest companions of the first President of Armenia Levon Ter-Petrosyan, late on May 12 in the "Europolice" programme at the Public TV of Armenia.

Mr Zurabyan has emphasized that according to the opposition the casualties of March 1 were killed in the Leo Street, that is, far away from the many thousand strong meeting near the monument to Alexander Myasnikyan. The supporter of Ter-Petrosyan has stated that the authorities should provide explanations: why snipers were used against peaceful citizens?

According to L. Zurabyan, the authorities have no facts or video records to confirm that on March 1 the opposition supporters had fire-arms or used them against law enforcement bodies.
