Abkhazian authorities reiterate their stand on refugee return

On the issue of return of the refugees, the position of Abkhazian leadership remains constant - stage-by-stage return at an initial stage only to the Galskiy District.

This was stated today by Sergey Shamba, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Abkhazia, at his meeting with representatives of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHRC). The UNHRC delegation, headed by Craig Johnston, Deputy High Commissioner, has arrived to Abkhazia today.

According to Mr Shamba, "currently, it is not possible to talk about return of Georgian refugees to the other districts of Abkhazia, since these processes can provoke a new conflict."
