Azerbaijan: judicial investigation of attack on journalist Halil is over

On July 9, the Nasiminskiy District Court of the capital of Azerbaijan, presided by Judge Shain Abdullaev, finished the judicial investigation on Sergey Strekalin's case, accused of inflicting on March 13 a knife wound to the journalist of the "Azadlyg" (Freedom) newspaper.

The court session has considered the evidences presented by the inquiry.

In the course of the hearing, Elchin Sadygov, the journalist's advocate, informed about the existence of software, by means of which it is possible to forge sms-messages. Allegedly, this was done from the journalist's telephone to Strekalin's one.

The journalist reminded that recently offensive sms-messages had been falsified to a number of well-known journalists from the phones of its former comrade-in-arms Kenan Ismailov and journalist Fikret Guseinli.

In this context, Halil's advocate moved a petition to attract experts in the sphere of information-communication technologies. However the judge has rejected this petition.
