Next action of Georgia opposition planned for November 23

From now on, Georgia will host permanent protest actions. It will be a new wave of protest; its aim being in peacefully changing the power in the country. This is the topic of the "United Opposition's Action Plan", which was distributed among the participants of the protest action in front of the parliament in Rustaveli Avenue in Tbilisi. Next time, the opposition will rally on November 23 near the building of the "Imedi" TV Company.

The opposition demands early presidential and parliamentary elections, release of political prisoners, guarantees to the freedom of mass media and return of the "Imedi" TV Company to the family of the late businessman Badri Patarkatsishvili; as well as amending the electoral legislation. The "United Plan" remarked that an independent investigation of the August events should precede the peaceful change of power.

The today's action of the opposition in Tbilisi ended near Mikhail Saakashvili's presidential residence, where the participants attached leaflets with their demands to the fence of the residence, the "Interfax" reports. The demands should be fulfilled by November 23.

In particular, the protesters want the "Imedi" TV Company to be returned to its lawful owners and all the political prisoners to be released. Should the authorities fail to do it by midday of November 23, the opposition will start permanent picketing of the "Imedi", the "Georgia Online" reports.

The conservative Kakha Kukava has stated that actions will be held not only in Tbilisi, but also in other cities and regions of Georgia.

On January 25, at 3:00 p.m., a protest action is scheduled in the Republic Square against falsification of the elections. The protesters will march to the parliament demanding to cancel the outcomes of the presidential and parliamentary elections held on January 5 and May 21 last year respectively and appoint new elections for spring 2009 on the basis of the new electoral legislation.

Should the authorities disregard the people's demands, on April 9 the opposition will start an endless sit-in protest action in Tbilisi in front of the parliament and in other cities of Georgia and proclaim the nationwide disobedience. The "United Opposition's Action Plan" runs that the action will continue until Saakashvili resigns together with his government.
