Deputy to join hunger strike of miners-pensioners in Rostov Region

Valery Dyakonov, a deputy of the municipal duma of the city of Zverevo, Rostov Region, has stated his readiness to join the miners-pensioners who are holding their hunger strike.

"After the necessary documents are ready on January 28, I'll be ready to join my comrades," Mr Dyakonov told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

According to Valery Dyakonov, after the Legislative Assembly of the Rostov Region had decided on January 22 to set up a working group out of representatives of the executive power and the protesters, there were no more signals from deputies of the Regional Parliament to the hunger-strikers.

"Two days ago, the number of hunger-strikers went down to two persons; probably, the authorities hoped that the hunger strike would stop by itself. However, their hopes never came true: today there are again five protesters like before," said Valery Dyakonov. On Wednesday, there will be six of them, myself including."

  • Resident of North Ossetia treats compensation for beating up by law enforcer as insufficient

Soslan Dzidakhanov disagrees with the amount of compensation for his suffered moral harm that the Ardonsky Court awarded him for being beaten up by a law enforcer. In the Russian judicial practice, it is customary to decrease the compensation amount; and the resonance from Tskaev's case has partially contributed to a decrease in the number of tortures in the republic, Vladimir Tskaev's widow and his advocate have stressed.
