Editor-in-Chief of "Chernovik": Aliev detained in Dagestan was tortured

An advocate is still not admitted to Ahmed Aliev, detained on February 21 in the course of a special operation conducted in the capital of Dagestan. Nadira Isaeva, editor-in-chief of the weekly named "Chernovik" (Blueprint), asserts that it is done deliberately, to hide the fact of torturing him.

"On February 21, in Makhachkala, in a special operation, conducted in Makhmuda Street, among the three detainees was Ahmed Aliev, son-in-law of my colleague - editor of the information-political section of 'Chernovik' Arthur Mamaev. For 7 days already (as of February 28) advocates are not admitted to the detainee, and reference is made to the instruction of the head of the GUVD (City Interior Department) of Makhachkala," said Ms Isaeva.

"Advocates are not admitted to the detainee in violation of Articles 21 'Prohibition of torture' and 48 'Right to defence' of the Constitution of the Russian Federation in order to hide the fact of torture and protract time until Ahmed Aliev's physical and mental condition gets more or less normalized, or, at the worst, he may not be alive," the editor-in-chief of the "Chernovik" has supposed.

Nadira Isaeva believes that Aliev's detention can be connected with criminal charges against "Chernovik", since Aliev is the son-in-law of Arthur Mamaev, editor of the information-political section of the weekly.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told at the GUVD of Makhachkala that non-admission of an advocate to the detainee is possible under a special regime, which can be introduced for 10-15 days.
