Union of Georgian Writers filed a complaint to the Ministry of Economic Development
A source in the Board of the Union of Georgian Writers has reported today that the Union lodged an official complaint to the Ministry of Economic Development with a demand to suspend privatization of the building, where they have their office.
The IA "News-Georgia" reports that the writers have organized the day-and-night duty post in the office of the Union and are not going to leave their building "without a fight."
The Board of the Union of Georgian Writers received a warning letter from the Ministry of Economic Development on Wednesday, August 15, according to which the organization was prescribed to move out of the building located at 13 Machabeli Street before August 18.
Members of the Union of Georgian Writers assert that the decision of the Ministry of Economic Development is illegal, since they have won the process against the Ministry at the Supreme Court, and insist that the building is the property of the Union and not a dwelling premise.
The "Caucasian Knot" reports that according to the unofficial information available with the writers, the building of the Union has been sold already, and the state is going to build a hotel there.
We note here that the building was donated to Georgian writers by a well-known Georgian philanthropist David Saradzhishvili early in the 20th century.
