Azerbaijan: convicted satirist is feeling worse

The health condition of satirist Sakit Zakhidov, journalist of the "Azadlyg" newspaper, convicted in Azerbaijan, has seriously aggravated. For several days already Sakit Zakhidov has high temperature and, despite the measures taken by physicians, the situation would not improve.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed about it at the Institute of Reporters' Freedom and Safety with reference to satirist's relatives.

We remind you that satirist Mirza Sakit (Zakhidov) was arrested on June 23, 2006, on charges of possessing drugs. On October 4, 2006, Zakhidov was sentenced to 3 years of imprisonment on obviously fabricated accusations. Mr Zakhidov was recognized to be a prisoner of conscience by local and international human rights organizations.
