In Dagestan, cancelling of criminal case against the Director General of "Nastoyascheye Vremya" appealed against by Prosecutor's Office

The Prosecutor's Office of Dagestan has sent a supervisory presentation to the Presidium of the Republic's Supreme Court concerning cancellation of judgements passed on the criminal case against Rizvan Rizvanov, Director General of the enterprise-founder of the weekly named "Nastoyascheye Vremya" (Present Time).

We remind you that on June 16 the investigatory committee of the investigatory department for the Kirov District of Makhachkala passed a statement to initiate a criminal case against Mr Rizvanov, Director General of the weekly "Nastoyascheye Vremya", under Article "Impeding the lawful professional work of journalists."

Then, one month later, the Court of the Kirov District of Makhachkala cancelled this statement with the absence of the victims' representatives, and the Judicial Board of the Supreme Court upheld this decision. Now, the "Gazeta.Ru" reports that the Prosecutor's Office of Dagestan demands to cancel these decisions, since they were made with violations of the Russian Code of Criminal Procedure.

  • Termination of murder case against Umazhat Guseinova upheld

    The appellate instance has recognized as legal the decision of the court in Makhachkala to stop the criminal prosecution of Tagir Velagaev, a pensioner of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), accused of murdering his ex-wife Umazhat Guseinova.   • Kuban resident fined for calls to terrorism
