Armenian opposition holds rally and street march in Yerevan

On July 2, in the capital of Armenia, supporters of the opposition held a several thousand strong rally and then marched along the streets of Yerevan.

Many recently released political prisoners spoke to the rally: Petros Makeyan, David Matevosyan, Gagik Dzhangiryan, Alexander Arzumanyan, Suren Sirunyan, Miasnik Malkhasyan and others. They thanked people for support and assured that they would go on fighting for liberation of their comrades who are still in prison.

"We can't be completely happy for two reasons: firstly, because they released us by announcing the so-called 'amnesty'. The criminal regime has amnestied people who struggle for their rights. We'll keep fighting for our rights and triumph of justice till the final victory. Secondly, our comrades are still behind bars," said Alexander Arzumanyan, ex-minister of foreign affairs.

After the rally, many thousands if its participants marched, in spite of rain, along streets in central city chanting: "Free, independent Armenia! Struggle, struggle to the end!"
